I apologize for posting this here but have not had much luck with KOEI support.

Ever since installing the game I have tried to play and I get the "RTKXI.exe has encountered an error and needs to close."  This happens at random times with no apparent trigger.  It typically happens when I click something to confirm or return or clicking on a unit in the field.  Again it appears to be totally random.

Below I have pasted the KOEI System Viewer log:

KOEI SYSTEM VIEWER Version 1.08

I have updated my video card driver to the most recent (released 09-Mar-2009) but this does not seem to resolve the issue.

I would appreciate any ideas any of you might have.  As I said before I have tried to get this resolved through emailing KOEI support but they seem to be ignoring me.

Again, any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Regards.

At last this is my conclusion. I said that Deng Ai & Deng Zhong are bug, but now I may say that all of Dengs clan are bug. I tried to march Deng Xian, also same, the flag was white and my laptop was hang. So, Koei may repair this Deng programming languages.

jamers, what copy did you have? Your system is much higher than the minimum specs.

No idea man, not sure if legal copy will have data.cab missing. Looks like when the cd is burned it get corrupted somewhere. Did you have problem installing other games or playing other games? Any error message?

Anyway if you think it is defect you can always exchange it with a new one.
Issit the english version?

I think I found the solution to all the crashing, if you have all the correct specs then the reason is that you need to turn compression on. I have a saved game that would ALWAYS crash if I were to click on Lou Yang with compression turned to off. When I turned compression that crashed went away. I can't explain why this is but... As long as it stops crashing i'm happy.

EDIT: IT SEEMS THAT RTK11 IS UNCOMPATIBLE WITH ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE, WHEN I EXITED OUT OF MY AVG ANTI-VIRUS AND TURNED COMPRESSION ON THE GAME WORKED, BUT WHEN I TURNED MY ANTI-VIRUS BACK ON THE GAME FREEZED UP.

If you look far enough in this forum you'll see that the Deng family is bugged, I have Deng Ai in my force and he is at Lou Yang which causes the crashes. I think the Deng is bugged in a way that anti-virus software will try and expel it or makes it incompatible.

EDIT2: Actually I may be wrong about the anti-virus, but i'm positive on the compression options. But after some testing I found out that you have to turn the game to "uncompressed" in the launcher (in the tannish box in the settings before actually launching the game). Then once in the game, go into your optionsset it to compressed and then conform, the game will freeze for a moment then return to the previous menu. I will edit this a third time to see if i'm in correct about the anti-virus assumption.

EDIT3: I turned my antivirus back on while the game is running, no crashes occured. It may or may not be a reason for the crashing.

The antivirus factor is more in relation to the choice of software itself as opposed to simply antivirus software as a whole. Avast has never given me nor anyone else I know any problems, whereas Norton seems to make life a living hell for all who dare use it.

Discovered another problem involving unlocked/created officers in the "seek out" events. While on occasion one may slip through without problems, on the whole it appears that such events are destined to screw the pooch.

Luckily I have a save the turn before Yue Yi attempts to recruit Yan Yan, so can test it. The initial failure rate was 90%, after turning compression on this dropped to 70%, and when I started using the launcher as opposed to a shortcut straight to RTKXI.exe, the failure rate shot right down to 5%.

Perhaps there's some data in the launcher button, some hidden command line parameter?

Not the most helpful info, I know, but perhaps it's a step closer towards figuring out why CTDs occur at all and devising a more consistent way of avoiding them.

The Deng clan is definitely bugged. It's what causes the crashes in the Rise of Heroes scenario, and nothing I do seems to prevent these crashes. Deng's also cause crashes in other scenarios as well but running the game directly from the launcher and turning compression on seems to help with any other scenario besides Rise of Heroes.

I think I may have an idea as to how to stop the crashing on ROH. Stay away from looking near Deng Ai's area until his force is destroyed, then maybe a lot of the CTD's would stop.

in fact, i have communicated with Koei UK via email several times & were told that those Japan developers that developed this game has left Koei

Therefore, this game will stay buggy forever, the PR Manager from Koei UK told me nobody at Japan will rectify all these bugs, as this game has been already developed 2 years ago.....

From this statement, Koei is very unfair to gamers (consumers). They just want to earn money from us, didn't even about rectifying the bugs reported by gamers. No wonder all the developers that developed this game left the company

Simple solution...turn watch to auto.  I encountered this glitch occasionally too, but as soon as I just ignored them all together, I haven't had a crash since.

It is likely a buffer issue with loading a new scene/setting, but like I said, simply turning it off should resolve the crashes...not like the dueling and debates were much fun to me anyway, as I play it for the strategic risk-like aspect.

Any ideas on what i can do?
