BRING BACK DYNASTY WARRIORS BODYGUARDS!!!

« Reply #4050 on: January 14, 2012, 11:21:07 am »

That reminded me of Dynasty Warriors 3, the bodyguards. You could choose what weapons they had. Bow & arrow, Pike, Spear and sword. Was a nice add as when you advanced ranks, and the game more difficult they would rank up too, start out with 2 peons then end up having 6-8 elite guards. If that's incorporated into Dynasty Warriors 7 that would be great. Cheesy
i couldent agree more they should put bodyguards back in dw7 empires

Bodyguards were interesting, you know what was more interesting tho? Allowing you to have Bodyguard Squads, I think that was back in 4 and 4XL, and you could level them up to look cooler and have better stats. In a main DW it wouldn't fly because the biggest turn off became your bodyguards stealing your kills, but in Empires it makes sense, because you are either a ruler or officer or vagabond and you are in charge of a lot of people. Also them stealing kills isn't an issue because your main goal in empires is land.

Also I wish Koei would stop adding characters we almost never see and add characters we always see, and that deserve a unique DW makeover.

Just a small list.
Han Dang
Cheng Pu
Hua Xiong
Xun Yu
Yan Baihu
Yan Yan
Yan Liang
Wen Chou
Yuan Shu
He Jin
Cao Ang
Li Ru
Lu Yi
Liao Hua
Huangfu Song
Ma Liang
Ma Su
Zhang Bao
Zhang Liang

Now some of them aren't in every battle granted, but we always stare them in the face in the critical battles in everygame and they still aren't characters. Chenpu and Han Dang especially served 3 generations of the Sun family. Liao Hua served from the YTR to the Fall of Shu. Not every choice up there was a mighty warrior, but some are long overdue for their own characters. Also fleshing out there storylines could breath some new life into this slow-dying behemoth of a series.

DW7 brought back some awesome features from earlier in the franchise, like the officer Stat drops, Base Captains that drop the Defense drops, largely populated battlefields, I got 6.5k KOs in the YTR DLC, and not since DW2 interestingly enough have I been able to hit such a high KO count. Along with a lot of Characters Wardrobes inspired from their introduction outfits which is nice.

Which brings me to my chief two complaints:
Two features I'd like to see brought back, Masses of Allied Characters on the Battlefield, Every battle you get officers, but not many friendly troops. In DW2 I remember beating Yellow Turban Rebellion and watching the swarm of allied troops running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Now when you control a battlefield, it's empty. No sea of blue. One easy way to fix this is do what you used to, when we take over a Base Captain spawn point, turn it into a friendly spawn point, allowing a fresh flow of friendly troops onto the field at all times.

Secondly please bring back the Enemy and Allied Officer K.O. announcements. Those always added so much flavour even tho they were such a small feature. From either 5 or 6 on it's just been your own or your buddies (2plyrmode) announcements. Im not asking for the Morale Bar back (Although I still don't think I understand why it was removed? Just trimming the fat aka unnecessary features?) just the K.O. announcements. I liked when I played Hu Lao gate and hearing Lu Bu had already cut down 600 of my comrades or fighting as Zhao Yun to stay ahead of Guan Yu and Zhang Fei's kill counts. These features kinda go hand in hand as Enemy officers cant get a lot of K.O.s when there isnt really any friendly troops on the battlefield. Anyways I hope anyone from Koei has had a chance to see my post, and the 270 pages of other fantastic posts.

P.S. Give Friendly Officers their Balls back. As it is when a friendly officer engages an Enemy Officer the stars and moons would have to align for the Friendly to win. Case in Point Lu Bu was defeated by some no-name generic officer in the DW7XL Xia Pi Battle. Whereas the Real Lu Bu, or even Enemy Lu Bu would of squashed him like a Bug. I understand sort of why you did it, to let the Player take out more Officers, but allowing Friendlies to win a little or a lot more often wouldn't hurt because as it stands they lose 99 out of 100 times. No matter if it's Gan Ning vs. Zhu Zan or Xiahou Dun vs. Liao Hua.

The biggest argument against adding many new characters here is that "I would like them to add people with interesting and worthwhile personalitys."

On the other hand, I think if they just gave these characters you listed their own character model, any cloned moveset and a little original voice acting that would be fine by me.
