www.gamecity.ne.jp/bladestorm/ has changed again.  A new trailer released has some footage and gameplay from Edward as opposed to Jean of Arc from the last trailer.

Also, there are a list of characters.  From left to right, top to bottom, the characters are:

England

Edward, the Black Prince
Hal, the red-haired lion
John Chandos, the one-eyed brave general?
Iamerlu?iamaaru, the protective sword of shadows [possibly Yamarle, the description may play off her african descent as well as a connection to Edward]
Margaret, young genius
King of England, the strong lion

France

Joan of Arc, bravely turning hope, the maiden at the frontlines
La Hire, the brave general burning from within?
Gilles de Rais, clever wisdom
Christine de Pizan, intelligent beauty
King of France, gold lily of glory

And yes, the two last characters for each side are labeled as "King of _____".  This is pretty typical in Japanese games.

The term Adarga is the uniqueness here.  It's a leather shield first used by Moors that were extremely effective defense against swords, lances, and arrows.  Later on it was adopted by the Christian Spanish (image linked from google).

Many of the terms for the troops that KOEI uses are a bit difficult to transcribe.  For instance "Longswordsmen" is really shortened.  I should have explained that one actually.  Lexicographically the characters mean Longsword + Shield + Soldier.  That doesn't really make a nice english equivalent.  They're basically standard soldiers with longswords so I approximated it by saying 'longswordsmen'.  On the other hand, Landsknecht and Adarga are 1:1 foreign word translations in Japanese.

I wasn't sure what to do with 'Mongolian Riders'.  I guess it could probably be better as 'Mongolian Mounted Archers' in hindsight.
