To die without honor is to have never lived

« on: October 02, 2006, 07:03:44 pm »

***This thread may and probably will contain SPOILERS*** ***This thread may and probably will contain SPOILERS***

Myself, had posted that I liked Mitsunari's story the best in another thread... I've done some soul-searching here with characters and their stories and have come to the conclusion...

Yoshihiro's 4th stage, "Battle at Sekigahara" and Yukimura's "Gaiden/ Dream" would be the motivating factor behind my opting for the Western. For those that may have or may not have gotten to those two stories, *spoiler info ahead, stop reading now if you haven't gotten here* it's the final words that Yoshihiro speaks that really put a catch in my throat. "We'll charge through, to the center". Most would claim that's crazy, suicidal and stupid. I call it valor. Standing on a losing battle field of allies, it's as if he came to realise the dream of Yukimura, Kanetsugu and Mitsunari. Although at one point they may have been enemies, a common belief has been formed and begins to bind them together, eventually coming to call one another friends. It's heart that matters and what made all but not a single second for me to decide. What really broke my heart, however...heheheh, was when Yukimura, Kanetsugu and Keiji (although not tied as deep in belief as the initial three) discovered Mitsunari fell at Sekigahara. That their dream, though bleak yet possible to achieve if you win the mission, could not be shared with each other. Yet they all still continued to fight. I really wish an ending for a story mode would have had all of them present... Sad

For me, the Eastern army seemed more hell-bent on serving one man because he, Ieyasu, at the time was their lord, nothing further. In other words, Ieyasu's followers (although not turning on one another like the Western army had problems with) were not bound as friends as strongly as the Eastern. They were simply following another man's orders because it was their commander who said 'charge'. Where-as the Western army, although following one man, were following their hearts and their own ambitions, ever-more, to reach the same end goal. That was my initial reaction to immediately opting for the Western. But it was Yoshihiro's and Yukimura's story/ gaiden (respectively) that hammered it home. Mitsunari didn't really see the bigger picture in what to fight for and why. He was kind of like a lost puppy out there in a world of jackals. It took some motivating but he, like all the others, found something and learned something from everyone else. It was something much deeper than just winning to unite the land because of the desire of one man. They fought for each other, not just to win for peace amongst the land.

It pleases me to go back and murder the  of the East every now and then when I see Mitsunari show up in someone elses story who learns he fell at Sekigahara. If nothing else, it's a small victory of heart, on my part. edit: It also cracks me up to no end, when you rescue Mitsunari by pulping the heads of the officers surrounding him... his response, done ever so eloquently in his mean behavior, ''What took you so long?'' It's as if he still feels embarassed to show true feelings and keep the 'tough-guy act' up, but you know, deep down, the homie is ever-so grateful  Wink

So, who would you side with and why? Whose story/gaiden helped make your choice? *Safe to set favorite characters aside for this* Or just whose story did you like the most from either or both side(s)?

I would join the Western army. They really changed my mind about how evil and cruel they are,and seeing that they wanted a happy and peaceful Japan. Then Yukimura was inspired to realize Mitsunari's dream and continuing his legacy with Kanetsugu Naoe.

The Eastern army fought for that too watch Iyeasu's second movie I think, they could have ran or submited but they fought so he could esacape and create a future that those men wanted but would not see.

I'd join the Eastern. Ieyasu fought for his losses, especailly the ones that died saving him in Mikatagahara. Pus I could hide behind Tadakatsu Honda.

Western Army for me. Thinking about fighting with Yukimaru and charging (Though I'd die. >.<) through Iyasu's ranks just sounds awesome.

If I could make a difference then I'd join the West. If not then I'm going with the East.

yeah, so far Mitsunari falling is the saddest moment in the game and i'll go with the east and hope i could make some humble contribution that would save Mitsunari, or allow him to escape...

That I understand, but when you look at Mitsunari, Kanetsugu, Yukimura and Keiji...at the time of Hideyoshi's rule, those four were really just 'there' doing their thing, as always, for what they as invdividuals believed in. The fact none of them where commanders, but just generals on the battlefield, is what makes the difference when they come together and fight for each other, rather than fighting for each other because it's the only way to achieve their commander's victory. West has more heart, is what I'm saying. I'm not saying the East doesn't have heart...it just seems not as much, via anyone's story.

The stage sucks with both sides >_>. It's just running from another place to another place and trying to rescue your allies. But I would say West, because there's Sakon, Mitsunari, Yoshihiro and Ginchiyo.
