They have got to have more to do than tell the same tired story over and over. How many Chi Bis can we have to start the wind and get the fire attack going? The gameplay has got to be amped up with more to do. They have a ton of characters, but half of them are lifeless with no part in the game.
They just did that. They went past 234. What more could they possibly do while still making it a three kingdoms game? It's like those dragonball z games. There is only so much story you can make games about.
I agree that they might be able to shift the focus a bit more to the later era... but getting rid of Chi Bi completely? That's like learning about world war two game and not mentioning the atomic bombs... They are a little too important to just not include.

They could make fan fiction but theres no use of that. The newer games will more likely be concentrating on the later era like you pointed out.
Still, I wouldn't mind seeing some "What If" of scenarios. What If Yuan Shao won at Guan Du?

I would also like to add that the story isn't the problem anymore. The game's gameplay keeps repeating over and over again until you can't be bothered to play it anymore. Sure new maps and new characters would be nice but it still doesn't change much for me.

So like previous Dynasty Warriors, where you could play through Yuan Shao's story?

Something better, something more in depth. Where Wen Chou and Yan Liang will have their own models and moveset.
However, I still believe new stages, added story and characters won't change the game alot.

The option to adjust the screen's brightness.
I'm not joking about this either, I can barely see where I'm going on those night stages.

I support the addition of blood, but only in cutscenes and movies. It can have a certain appeal if done correctly.
I definitely agree with this point. I felt some cutscenes in DW7 could have benefited from the inclusion of blood.
They had blood in a DW3 cutscene, so why not.

Cutscenes, for sure, so long as they didn't overdue it. Like when Sima Shi got shot in the tumor.

Features:
-
K.O. Announcements for Everyone again, not just for Players, as it is now
- I want to play Hu Lao gate as the Coalition and read about Lu Bu cutting down 600 men already before I even get to him. Also this would really increase the immersion, as it stands, and I think we all agree, Allied Officers suck. 100% Suck. They do nothing except move around the battle field. When they engage in an Officer Duel, they lose 99 out of 100 times. The Enemy Officer, regardless of Who vs. Who will almost always win. So bringing back K.O. Counts for Friendly and Enemy Officers, will remind us that our Friendly Officers can still kick some .
-
Boost/Improve Allied Officers
- See Above Feature.
-
Keep the Base Captains that guard Spawn Points
- As re-Introduced in the DLC map packs (Like the good ol' days) and also re-add the ability that when we capture a spawn point that it turns to a Friendly Base Captain, and if the Enemy takes it back it becomes an Enemy Spawn again. This will allow the largely populated battles we currently have as of DW7 and even them out. As the last few games have seriously cut down the Friendly soldier numbers. I luck seeing actual battles play out, not 100 friendly soldiers vs. 3000 enemy soldiers. Also I hate in the latter games of the series, that when I've pretty much captured 90% of a battle field it's empty. The sea of Red is gone, and now it's empty. It should be like it used to be a Sea of Blue. Where are the Friendly Soldiers?! I miss them.
-
Any Officer in Story Mode Battle
- Allow a Story Mode Feature that lets you chose between any Officer taking part in a Battle instead of just one as it is now. You can do this in the Camp Phase, you start as a reccomended officer as usual and when you talk to other Characters that are also in the battle you can get an option to switch to them.
-
Empire Mode: Combine Conquest Mode with Empire Mode
- and that way Each Province has a city you can occupy. It will be so much cooler to roam as a Vagrant and visit cities under the control of Cao Cao and Sun Quan etc. Seeing Wei or Wu troops standing guard, seeing a couple of the factions officers strolling about the town to shop/drink/socialize. Also introduce those Random Rescue/Side Mission Battles Conquest mode had, it would really break up the current Monotomy in Empire mode as it just goes from Invasion to Defense to Invasion. Now you could be asked to go on Rescue missions that allow you to save someone else or rescue an officer and they later join you.
-
Empire Mode: Joint Attacks
- I'd also like to see a feature where say you are playing as Liu Bei and Sun Quan asks for your support in a battle. So you can stage a joint attack A la Chi Bi or Fan Castle.
-
New Characters
: He Jin, Yuan Shu, with New Campaigns focusing on the Imperial Army, featuring the Yellow Turban Rebellion, and all the struggles the Han Dynasty Faced before it collapsed, such as Ma Teng's rebellion, the Yellow Turban Remnants, Campaign against Dong Zhuo battles leading up to either The
Assination of Dong Zhuo
or the
Imperial Defense
when Yang Feng and Dong Cheng helped the Emperor reach Cao Cao's army and giving us at least 3 Yellow Turban Battles again like we had in DW5(or was it DW4?), and another campaign for the Yuan family featuring it's struggles leading up to
Guan Du
or that Post Guan Du battle against the sons of Yuan Shao. I'd also like to see Cheng Pu, Han Dang, Liao Hua, Ma Su, Ma Liang, Xun Yi, Huangfu Song, Yan Yan, Yan Liang, Wen Chou, Hua Xiong and several others finally get characters of their own that we can play as. Those guys have been in since DW2 they deserve their own chars before any new made up chars are introduced.
P.S. Throw in Sun Jians quelling of the Pirates Battle. Sun Jian and Huang Gai vs. Gan Ning, Zhou Tai and that other Pirate who wasn't lucky enough to get a character but now can maybe get one!

While I'm not a fan of adding folk-tale characters like BSN and koei has made some odd choices for characters, I hope koei don't go down the route your suggesting. I would rather characters were added becuase koei thought they would be intresting due to their personality and story, or fill a hole in the relevant kingdom rather then game seniority. Particularly if those characters are one-shots.

i wouldnt mind certain characters getting their own proper character, depends, i would think wen chou and i think yan liang? who served under yuan shao and were supposed to be tough officers to beat, (i cant remember, been a while since playing a DW console game) even though they appear in a couple of battles, they could add to story modes for Yuan Shao if there were to be 1 (like the DW7 story mode styled games, like shu you play as multiple officers, wen chou and yan liang could have there own little bit to the story, make it a bit more interesting then just zhang he, zhen ji etc

Personally, a minor character who I think would add to the story in an interesting way would be Cao Zhi, as a character foil for Cao Pi. He was obviously no general, but that hasn't stopped Koei in the past. I still think he could add quite a bit.

I'm gonna agree with Ma Su and say that this list, as is, would not help DW. Cheng Pu and Han Dang are cool and all, but Huang Gai already doesn't really do much for Wu. Adding these guys will basically be spreading Huang Gai's role across multiple characters.
Liao Hua and Ma Liang would do very little for the series, as neither add anything. Liao Hua is the only character I could see with a little potential, but that is mostly just because Shu has very characters left to work with.
I think you mean Xun Yu, not Xun Yi...
Ma Su, Yan Liang, Wen Chou, Hua Xiong, Yan Yan, and Huangfu Song are all one hit wonders. They do one thing, in one battle, and then are never heard from again. Sure, Wen Chou and Yan Liang would add to Yuan Shao's storyline, but his sons would do a much better job than they would, because they add more.

@Boytie, i think Koei aims to keep this game rated T, i dont mind if it was T or M. However, i think Koei wants to keep and gain a large(r) fanbase by keeping it at T whereas getting the game itself shouldn't be an issue. Though this is just my opinion and i can be wrong.
okay, now for my answer in the forum.
I really lked the story mode, great cutscenes and great narration. Though, maybe they could've done better with Jiang Wei's invasions.
I didn't mind the recycled missions in story mode, i really liked them. However, i feel that they could've expanded on it, like as stated earlier, where if you choose to use the flood gate in Xia Pi or not can have significant and noticeable effects and shifts in the battlefield. In XL, the recycled missions were more of a hassle than enjoyable for me. If you are going to recycle missions like they did in DW7XL then at least find some way to make it fresh but still great as it was when the mission was first debuted.
honestly, i dont like clones, just my opinion. An idea to solve clones was probably the option to get old move sets from earlier DW, but of course with the edited to have C5 and C6 moves, weapon-switch attack, and an EX combo through DLC.
I love the dual weapons system and i hope they keep that, it offers such an experience.
I like the english VA, it grows on you, although its taking me a while for zhong hui's to grow on me. :/
More characters for the late era of the three kingdoms. To me this is important cause when i played Jin's story, even though i loved the missions, i disliked the fact that almost every officer was generic. Also more modes like CAW and such and more maps, there are alot more maps that they can touch upon and alot more scenarios as well.
Is it just me, or does anyone else think that Xiahou Ba shouldn't be in Jin's selection list, but rather, he should be in either Shu's or Wei's?
I have to disagree to this statement:
"It only makes sense that two people from the same region fighting with the same weapon are using some of the same moves." ( jschult5, pg.1)
Not really, there are many martial arts just for one weapon. Let alone that, but let's not forget that China at this age wasn't united and was divided into kingdoms/territories. Your not going to know the same form of technique from someone in Wei when you are in Shu or Wu. Moves can be similar, this is what i agree with, but the same, no. When you say that you know kung fu, i say which style? There are many styles to one martial art and for one weapon especially in an age such as the three kingdoms era.
These are just my opinions

Yes, you can be wrong! How does releasing the same game over and over build a fan base? It certainly didn't work for fighting games. Take Street Fighter... the best game was Street Fighter 2, and since then they have re-released it with minor upgrades, adding in new characters, and such. But is it any more popular? Not according to sales.
Same holds true for 'she kicks high'... I mean Dead or Alive. They add a few more characters, some new outfits, and beach volleyball, and the series stagnates... wait! Isn't this
Tecmo
-Koei now? I mean, DOA is a great series... the BEST!
The point is, if games do not develop somehow, they eventually lose sales- particularly in the Western markets. I would rather see them try something new like making the game more brutal than simply waste away. No amount of skimpy bikinis or bump mapping could save this one... imagine Lu Bu in a bikini!

OK, let me put it this way. Karate and Tae Kwon Do both have similar kicks, they have front kicks, side kicks, and so on. They are from different regions, but maybe they are close on the same side of the world. Here is the interesting part:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcQItjm1VW0
In this video it looks like he is showing a push kick, front kick, side kick, round house, and something similar to a reverse round house. So a martial art on the opposite side of the world came up with similar techniques... only difference is the stance... dance... something.
The point is, there is only so much you can do with a punch, kick, or weapon. With bladed weapons it usually comes down to stab or slice. Now you can say 'my technique is different than yours because I am wearing a funny hat' or 'because my attack was 1 degree higher', but in the end you are still going to have the same basic movements no matter what stance they are using.
Now this is ESPECIALLY true when you look at the different kingdoms of Wei, Wu, and Shu. Why would these have very similar styles? Because less than one hundred years prior, they were all Han!

Oh jschult5, showing your fighting knowledge to us. lol Just kidding.
I only see 2 options:
Change everything or cancel it. Same game over and over again. Its like FIFA but FIFA is more appealing with its online play.

I think you misunderstood what adia68 was trying to say rather then his arguing the game didn't need reform.
