What about adding a poll?  I vote for....................Lu Bu  Tongue  Roll Eyes  just kidding....maybe Honda was better because he surpassed the normal of his age  which was brilliant (refer to 16th century normal) in Yu's era.............

The ninja should win the Spartan.Instead of using all those nasty ranged weapons when the Spartan was not looking he tried to backstab him  Roll Eyes

My vote stays with Guan Yu. Have you all forgotten of Guan Yu's savagry?! It was because of this might and brutality that he is to this day, a deity in several religions. Most famously in buddhism as a war diety (if I am remembering right). Maybe through irony, the same sect of buddhism Raheem so suspects Honda practiced. In a fight a one on one, Guan Yu's might beats Tadakatsu. Realistically, Yu wins.

yeah that is true but also to stay back on topic what Guan Yu are we talking about Novel or real for its real hands down Honda will win if its novel Honda will still win but there is still that doubt in mind.

Also did you see that Vlad versus Sun Tzu battle if it was army against army Sun Tzu would win

Well of course... it only stands to reason. Sun Tzu literally wrote the book on war.

As for the topic, I'm throwing my lot in with Honda. Much of Yu's exploits are fictional or possibly manipulated (remember, they would be getting a biography of Guan Yu from Shu who would be biased in writing a biography of one of their generals).

As was stated, Honda is more recent, so it is less likely that his tales have been manipulated and blown out of proportion.

As this is just a hypothetical situation, I think it is safe to make a judgment on the balance of probabilities, not beyond reasonable doubt.

Okay... But who would win if Guan Yu and Zhang Fei fused and became Zhanguan Yufei vs Honda?

Honda was just a simple man, as was Guan Yu. The reputation of both their armies was what made these two men famous. I like the concept of Koei making them like two super humans generals slashing off thousands of troops, but really the fact is they were both of flesh and blood;p I think Lu Bu is even overrated as he actually was a sub-officer at the beginning in Dong Zhou's army..

Pretty much everyone started off as a sub-officer for someone else.  Kinda irrelevant.
They are all overrated as far as KOEI's representation goes.  Every single officer, for that matter, is overrated, as far as physical prowess.

Interesting iamnick, but I beg to differ when it comes to Liu Bang and Xiang Liang:
''Xiang Liang 項梁 (d. 208) was a rebel leader against the Qin dynasty 秦 (221-206). He came from Xiaxiang 下相 (modern Suqian 宿遷, Jiangsu ) and was the son of general Xiang Yan 項燕, a military leader of the Warring States period kingdom of Chu. He was also the uncle of Xiang Yu 項羽, the hegemonial king and competitor with Liu Bang 劉邦 for imperial power''
I wished there were games made by Koei about these two great leaders.

I'm not sure how that really expresses anything about Xiang Liang not being a sub-general to someone else. His father was a general, and given his learning of military tactics, Xiang Liang likely would have served under someone.

Also, there is a game about the Chu-Han contention made by Koei. It's quite unknown by many people, and it plays a lot differently than RoTK. It's on the SNES and it's called Rise of the Phoenix.

To answer the main topic, Honda Tadakatsu was a vastly superior general to Guan Yu. But we have no record of him dueling or killing another general on the battlefield. When it comes to comparing the two, I'd want Honda in command of the army, and Guan Yu serving as a vanguard leader under a commander like Honda.

Honda is the person you want making the plans, Guan Yu is the person you want in the front, or close to the front to inspire the soldiers with his prowess. And given the episode of his wounded arm and the surgery it involved, Guan Yu seems like the person who can shrug off injuries and deal with pain.

One thing is for certain... I wouldn't want to see either of them charging at me.
