Just wanted to say, without any intention of trolling, that I have bought DW6 a month after it went out and it was arguably the worst game I have bought on XBOX since the last 3 years.

I am 29 years old and I felt I was playing a game for very very young kids. I do not see how it can compare to SWE3, or even SWE2.

Simplifying the gameplay to the extreme will eventually turn down all people willing to use a tiny bit their brain to play games.

If DWE7 is just about smashing the buttons of your gamepad and "Oh look how my new armor looks cool", or "wow this stick looks sooo fancy, I must own it" well Im not gonna buy it.

The "strategic" map is just an ugly map to look at before hastly switching to combat. The decision making process and your ranking is just a joke, the consequences of your actions on a strategic levels are near to 0.

Fighting is boring as well, I mean ok you have 1 tough guy that you level up buy beating the living hell out of a mixtures of enemy thrown at you. Basically DWE6 is a DW6 with an ugly and useless map.

1. Please add brigades, or squads that you can move in strategic positions: position archers on hills, lancers on your front game, order to a bunch of samurais to follow you. At least in SWE you can do that. But I wish that it would not be limited to some special cards, but extended to the whole army you have. Being able to control the content of your army (number of bowmen, swordsman, spearman, cavalry, etc..) before launching an assautl would be a reasonable request.

2. Damage on cities you are trying to take, tear their wall appart, burn house or wathever, so you may do some harm even if you loose a battle. Part of the extreme simplification is that when you attack a region, the outcome of the battle doesnt affect its "economy", oh wait theres no economy right ?

3. Why can't we build stuff ? Without overcomplicating the game, would be good to actually build fortification, assuming forticfications are "useful", because schematizing a fortress to a serie of gate to break is what fortifications are for now.

4. Why do I never care when I rush on units ? Be it archers, spearmans, officers, what the hell its just the same guy with a different shirt right ? I wish some units would have weakness and strengh, and that a combination of units that "you would control" through issuing orders, would help assaulting regions. Rather than just being me, myself and I leading the whole battle for reuniting China.

Well I can go on and make a whole list, but if we can have the 4 above points in the next release, I, or "we", would probably give the game shot.

Warriors type games are easier/cheaper to make.
Corporations basically look for quick easy profits.
Some of us are too mature for recent console games.
No one is currently making S&T for Thinkers.
Market continues to age with no response from Game Designers.
Solution quit buying games that you really don't want.
Go Retro.

I tend to agree with the original poster.
Have you played DW5E? Of the Empire games for DW that one was the best.

DW6E was a complete waste of a game when it came to strategy. Reason was they gutted the ruler mode. Hopefully Koei might learn from that bad mistake and give both style of games something they want. DW6E had some RPG elements and stuff that younger gamers seem to love, while DW5E gave at least some decent light strategy decision making. The AI was very weak however.

I hope to see DW7E correct the error and give a decent ruler mode, and maybe expand it with even more tough decision making along with a better AI. If there were toggle switches for these things, it would please the younger crowd, so they can play mindless hack and slash that is all flash and no fire.

No I didn't, does it compare to SWE 2 ? Does the gameplay have more or less the same (light but still better than nothing) complexity ?

I would say it was on par with SWE1. The big difference between SWE2 and DW5E are the following. The theme, and the fact that there are no formation cards in DW5E. I believe both had special events in them. Otherwise they are both cut from the same complexity. Both light strategy games with hack and slash battles.

To the inquisiteur,

First off, I would like to say that maybe DW6 or any DW game is not for you.  DW is meant to be a light-strategy action game for pure fun and excitement.  DW was never about being a heavy-strategy game.

There is a game however that may meet your expectations for a heavy-strategy action game which allows strategic movement of your individual units.  That game is called Kingdom Under Fire.  Kingdom Under Fire 2 is coming out soon for xbox 360.  That game has the strategy elements you are looking for combined with the action.

To sum it up,

DW6 is a light-strategy action hack and slash game designed for pure fun.
Kingdom Under Fire 2 is heavy-strategy action game with hacking and slashing as well.

Kingdom Under Fire 2 is what you are looking for.

Dragonmaster. I believe the Empire games are all light strategy games, with the exception of DW6E which removed the strategic component called the ruler system and replaced it with at best described as empty shell.

Kingdom under fire is at best a heavy TACTICAL game, with hack and slash action. DWE series except for DW6E has a a simple but strategic ruler mode, something that is missing in the KUF system.

Kingdom Under Fire 2 is what everyone and Koei wishes they could make Dynasty Warriors like. That game is so much more superior that I'm thinking of forgetting all about this failure of a series and start playing Kingdom Under Fire 2. I'm tired of wasting my money and being disappointed by Koei and the Dynasty Warriors series, time to leave that series for the minors. Kingdom Under Fire 2 for the win!   Cool Evil
