Quote
ituation he could create for them simply put had Guan Yu not died Liu Bei never would have done what he had done even if he did lose Jing Nan.

He would have invaded Wu anyway, he had to really or else Shu's name would be turned into "Wu's puppet" Wink Guan Yu just handed an awesome sounding excuse

Guan Yu was highly respected in his own time, which given his battle record is a bit baffling but Wu didn't trust Shu and were worried about the dangers of Jing being in another's hands so an alliance would have probably been made. Lu Meng's wariness of Guan Yu and poor handling of diplomacy certainly helped

Liu Bei was recorded as being terrified of Lady Sun and her 100 servant girls armed with daggers.

I think that would take the wind out of my sails too.

you are confusing her with Diao Chan, who did not exist as we know her (though she is based on a hand maid that is mentioned once in the texts).

no i am not confusing her with Diao Chan, i thought i had heard Sun was a fictional character added in the book. I don't usually confuse people except for lady Liu and lady Yu or Yan whatever it was.

Not sure why you thought she was fake then.

Wouldn't really want her to babysit my kids though. One minute she is watching them, next minute she is trying to high tail it back to her brother with your kids.

(Least I think that happened, someone correct me if I'm wrong.)

Yeah, pretty sure that's what happened.

Her loyalties clearly resided with Wu. As I understand it, it was an arranged marriage between her and Bei; that probably weakened the relationship and made it easier for her to return to Wu.

i did not think she was real because i had read that she was a fictional add or something like that. I had heard she was in love with Liu Bei and that she killed herself when he died, is it that version of Xiang i am mistaking for not real.

I would think their marriage was more to do with strengthening the alliance between the two kingdoms. Her loyalties to Wu came out when the alliance broke down in AD 211, leading her to take Liu Shan with her. I doubt that was her's or Wu's intent from the start.
