Yeah Call of Ktulu has a wicked sound, and I think Death Magnetic is kinda different. I like that they brought back instrumentals, but I wasn't too fond of Suicide and Redemption. Anesthesia, Orion, , and To live is to die where all so dark and twisted. I miss that old sound too. RTL is my third favorite album. Second is Master of puppets and the super apocolyptic ...and justice for all. I miss the post apocolypse sound. Lets us pray to the Gods of metal for a Master of puppets 2! One can dream......(KUDOS TO US FOR MAKING THIS THREAD SO HOT. METAL FOREVER!!)

For real mighty, but one can only dream sadly. Maybe one day they'll be as good, but I don't see it happening.

i brought this up with my guitar teacher last night; He said he believes Metallica's newer stuff is worse because quite frankly, THEY ARE THE MOST INFLUENTAL METAL BAND and sadly as a result of that, people will make songs incredibly similar to theirs, which basically means, they've got nothing left to do.

A good analogy would be like a god, having a great power which can be achieved with practice, he reaches the point of complete fame. Everyone now wants to be like that god. So they practice, and develop their own styles of it, or copy his. Sooner or later, that god is going to be just like everyone else, except he still has his fame.

Yep very true my man. I play thrash because of metallica as well. The thing is however, no one can truly be metallica. It doesn't matter how  good I play one, I just can't be those guys. They are truly gonna be around for a long time even after they are gone, which hopefully isn't anytime soon. I think these days, we will are gonna get a nu metal style of thrash instead of the old school wickedness we grew on. I wouldn't mind another death magnetic, it was really cool. In the end though, we will never get another "black album" or ride the lightning. Lets just hope they stick to metal, double bass drumming, solo's, heavy riffs, and rob trujillo. Seriously, they go through bass players like J-Lo goes through husbands (BURN!!) I hate having to get used to new band members. It took forever to get over Jason Newstead.

I couldn't agree more with you, on ALL parts of that (even the J-lo part, LOL!). I'm not quite sure how they'll do it though, because despite the fact that they are extremely influental, and nearly a requirement for any aspiring metal player, there are very little people i know who like them. I bring up metallica, they shake their heads, they say they suck, they do something or other which makes it come across as they dont like them. I'm VERY lucky if someone says they like some of their stuff.

I don't know, I guess it's more of an out-with-the-old-into-the-new thing i guess. Which i find very annoying.

Kai, you bring up an interesting point with the thing you said earlier. I guess they really did all they could do and everyone does somewhat copy them, my band is heavily influenced by metallica. And mighty I like your analogy. I dreamed once I played bass for metallica and got fired on tour. It was pretty funny.

It's sad but true (WOOHOO!!) how achieving god-like fame can easily make anything new instantly obsolete.

there will never be another metallica. I know alot of people who say they are awesome. They play hard metal but it's something anyone will like. It's nothing like mudvayne and children of bodom. They talk about life. I love their music, even st anger. I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't like them.

I wish everyone liked em, but sadly not everyone does. Especially here where I live everybody likes country, and I can't stand it. I kid you not, there are people in my school who have never heard of metallica. But that's expected in alabam...

Where I live, Rap and Hip Hop is the big thing. And whenever I bring up metallica, it seems that eveyone instantly thinks death metal screamo bands. I don't mind that very little like them, I just wish more did.

Yeah man, rap is awful, wish more people would realize that. Anyway metallica had their day. If they come near Alabama this year or next, you know what I'll be doing that night...

IF my mother had no objections to staying a couple hours at a concert of music that she hates and gets an instant headache if she hears so much as a riff...
