The Start of the End of a Long Rivalry

December 17, 1563

It has been two long years since anything happened. These two years were quite boring my clan was neither attacked nor did we attack. We are currently developing for we have somewhat fallen behind. We have not built any districts within the castle of Hiyama. Hiyama castle looks as if not one soul lives there. Aside from that matter I had a council on to what should we do. Takanobu Ishikawa suggested the idea to advance on Hakodate port for which every drafting season it became stronger it gained more and more troops. He told all of that if we did not do anything to stop this we could see our land attacked by the Kakizaki, which would open a door for either the Uesugi or the Mogami to attack us as well. So I approved his strategy to attack, which then I asked the question of who wanted to take part on a full on attack on the Kakizaki lands. Every officer wanted to participate for we would finally defeat one of the two remaining forces that have been our longtime rivals the Anto-Kakizaki alliance.

The Dispatch

May 7, 1564

It has been a couple of months since we decided to attack the Kakizaki. It is quite fortunate to see all of my officers’ enthusiasms to go to battle, sadly only eight were to be picked. The commander of the attack would be Takanobu Ishikawa (the mastermind behind this attack), then followed the rest ; Mitsuhide Orimoto (was unsuccessful in his last assault against the Kakizaki), Nobunaka Kunohe, Masazane Kunohe, Sanechika Kunohe, Takahide Shikama , Akinao Funao, and my son Nobunao Nanbu. Two generals were paired up and assigned to a unit in total of 4 units each unit carrying 9,000 brave soldiers. Now I wait to see if it is true what the people of this land say about the Kakizaki’s Navy being strong.

An Expected Victory

August 30, 1564

I have just received news that Takanobu Ishikawa’s attack force destroyed the well defended port. I was getting a bit worried for it almost took them up to four months. They have also informed me that they will not continue the attack for quite some time until they rebuilt the port and troops heal. They also told me to expect a new castle in four months.

A Small but Powerful Clan

November 23, 1564

Our northern border is sealed at last. I can now focus my clan’s movement to the west, were great battles are heard off, were most importantly the capital resides. On revelation to our attack on Tokuyama castle, which was the last standing place of the Kakizaki clan. The Kakizaki clan was holding off my clan’s   powerful attack with only two officers that of their Daimyo, Suehiro Kakizaki and Suehiro’s son-in-law Hirotsugu Nanjo. I do not know how the Kakizaki clan did it, but they earned my respect.  After the battle they were taken as prisoners, to my surprise Suehiro and Hirotsugu were not ashamed on having been defeated. They were full of pride and honor for having fought a fierce battle. After seeing this from them I asked them to join my clan, which they gladly accepted. My clan knows no boundaries to its strength.

The Takeda and the land of to the West

December 20, 1564

The Takeda clan can be a thread to us if we do not capture Yamagata castle and defend the Date clan from attacks. The following information I am the only that knows of this I do not want my retainers to know of this for it might make them a bit nervous. The Takeda are up to 12 castles, 3 fortresses, and 2 ports. They nearly have 450,000 troops compared to my 170,000 troops. To the north of the Takeda clan there are to clans on being the Honganji with five castles there and another castle near the Miyoshi lands. The other clan is that of the Uesugi Clan having only 2 castles and 2 ports. Also the Takeda can advance anywhere they can continue their attack on towards the west or they can destroy this small clans between me and them, so we can confront a worthy clan.

The End of a Family

April 1, 1565

A couple of years ago an officer of mine gave his live to protect Ishikawa castle against a powerful Anto attack. The name of that brave samurai was Harutane Kasai. Harutane Kasai left his son Chikanobu Kasai in my hands. Chikanobu was a capable officer; he helped out by inspiring troops during attacks. He also helped us negotiate with the Date. It kills me to say that he is no longer with us; I treated him like if he was my very own son. He was still young, although he would always cough during the council meetings. I would hear him tell me that he could not take the pain of his sickness. The first time he told me he was sick was about a year after his father died. Maybe his father was trying to take him before something terrible happened. No one knows why it happened; I just like to think that he is finally off this chaotic land. The next castle or clan we capture it would be in honor of his name.

mitsurugi, i really enjoy reading this. i suppose we should each have done one aar at a time. keep it up. looks like you have quite a fight brewing on your hands. i would definitely try to take out the takeda as soon as possible. the longer you wait, the less chances you will have. the only problem is that with their cavalry they can get between castles quickly.
good luck.

This...is...unbelieveably powerful stuff. I won't lie, I am a bit envious of your exploits. I would never really be able to put so much into events that are not really mentioned, like the officer suggestions, but the actions taken and the battles fought really form a vivid picture of your epic exploits and struggles.

Well thank you. I am thinking for my next move i am going to go after the Mogami clan and the Soma at the same time after that i can focus on the Takeda. Also remember the Nanbu are also good at cavalry and my cavalry matches that of Shingens'.
