I don't know about you guys, but a game's musical score plays a major role for me. I personally think that Final Fantasy games beat out pretty much every other franchise in terms of soundtrack, as Nubuo Uematsu and Masashi Hamauzu are musical geniuses. My favorite musical score from a game would have to be that of Final Fantasy X. The music really added alot to the opening, making it very surreal and setting the tone for the rest of the game.

"To Zanarkand" is what I believe the song was called.

Anyway, what about you guys? Do any of you have a favorite video game soundtrack?

The Metal Gear series has always had the best soundtrack to me, they're always brilliant.

Although it may not suit everyone, I loved the Jet Set Radio Future soundtrack.  It worked really well with the whole game... Well it did for me at least.

I don't have a lot of video's, but the majority of it is just random at best.

Destiny of an Emperor for NES, or Star Ocean 2 for the Playstation.  They're still the only games that I know the actual "music" to by heart.
Oh, and of course Castlevania: Symphony of the Night- the only game I actually own the soundtrack to.

For me it's the monotonal, linear melodies of Pokemon on the Game Boy Color, namely Red/Blue/Yellow. I've played comparatively few games to everyone else, and the games I have played haven't had memorable soundtracks. So it's Pokemon, for me. Actually, the music on SSX3 was pretty good. Still Pokemon........

I like grand theft auto 3 and final fantasy 10.....the newer MGS's like 3 and 4 are also awesome

Koei made one hell of a soundtrack when they released Dynasty Warriors 3 and 4....some great guitar solo's in it

Final Fantasy series, of course. Chrono Trigger was great for as well as midi format can do. I really like the soundtracks from the Chrono Cross and the newer Suikoden (actually used an instrumental Suikoden song at my wedding reception).

Of course I love the RoTK and Nobunaga's Ambition soundtracks. However, they don't have enough, and what they do have they limit to certain times of the game (i.e. peaceful vs. battle times). It can get rather repetitive.

I Stand Alone by Godsmack (one of the  best songs I've ever heard) in Prince of Persia: Warrior Within
Hitman: Blood Money (Jesper Kyd is awesome)

I'm also a big fan of the song "Somnus Nemoris." It's the theme song from (you guessed it!) Final Fantasy Versus XIII. I understand a rudimentary amount of latin, so that's why it stuck out to me at first. But the lyrics really fit the story and mood of the game perfectly

I loved the first Kessen sound track.

Also, FF and Metal Gear have good soundtracks as well.

Best soundtrack in a single game? Ooooh, tough to call.

Mega Man X definitely has to be up there, as does Super Castlevania IV. Those two are probably my biggest shout outs.

Also true what was said of Pokemon, at least the Red/Blue generation, the Gym Battle theme still gives me goosebumps. Chrono Trigger's a good shout as well, to be honest most stuff that Mitsuda did was awesome; Xenogears being another prime example.
