Weapons, Movements, and God Powers

Personally, I just like seeing my own text so enjoy.
I think the base weapon for this game should be the spear. It makes sense for the time. Swords in use for an entire army would have been too expensive. So the enemies you are facing should mainly wield spears. Now, your characters should also start with spears but should be able to throw them and then draw out their sword to continue fighting. Spear would give you a wider arc of attack but a sword would be overall more powerful. Perhaps the spear would break after a while as well. Bows should be used but not every character should start out with them. Those characters can pick up the rocks and spears the developers talked about. Characters who can wield bows would be the deadliest, in the right hands, but would be handicaped by ammo. It might be nice to have over the shoulder aiming while you are moving (LOTR Conquest style). Arrows could be shot in a panic without exact aim with accuracy suffering of course. Spears would also work in this manner.
If its a warriors series, then it involves horses. Cool, fine, dandy. Just make some of them chariots to add extra coolness. Perhaps an archer and spear thrower could jump on the back and help you or vice versa. Would add an interesting addition to coop.
Gods powers is where the series has the greatest potential for growth in my opinion. You could shy away from the gods altogether or have them involved seamlessly throughout. If they are involved, here are some of the gods powers I would like to be able to invoke in the game: lighting air strikes, rage mode, inspire my troops, plagues of locusts, raining down fire, become invisible, turn people to stone, and of course (hehe) god mode. All of course temporary and requiring you to please a specific god in that battle. This allows for even greater freedom. For instance, you are attempting to seige a gate. You could a) charge it blindly hacking down all in your path pleasing Ares you grants you rage mode to slay your foes, b) capture outer bases which would please Zeus who grants you a lightning strike, or c) defeat a certain enemy commander which pleases Aphrodite who turns you invisible allowing you to sneak in undetected.

All excellent suggestions. Maybe the God Powers could work like DW6E. Not attached to the weapon, but the Hero directly. He is granted one power, and can gain as many as 4. Using the LT combined with x,y,b,a to activate.
He only can use them once. Once used, he must perform task during the game, to regain or add a new power. Call them favor, if you will. Different favors depending on the task he completes and from different gods.
You could even have a ying yang kind of thing going. Performing one task will gain favor with said god, but at the expense of pissing off another.

I am surprised this topic didn't inspire more conversation. Did I post such epic genius that one is left in awe upon reading it or is it merely blatantly obvious and thus deserves no rebuttal?
Anyway...I just finished reading "Gates of Fire". First of all, READ IT. Second of all, READ IT.
Thirdly, if Warriors: Legends of Troy could attempt to embody that book (albeit "Gates of Fire" is about the battle of 300) then it would achieve greatness. "Gates of Fire" succeeds in both glorifying violence while drawing attention to its absolutely disgusting and revolting nature.
My point...idk I confused myself and this website is getting boring. INCLUDE THE ABILITY TO MARCH IN LINE WITH OTHER SOLDIERS IN A PHALANX!

Is Gates of Fire, a fiction book, like the movie, The 300?
Going back to your original post. I do hope the spear is the Primary weapon.
During this time period, in history the weapon for the common warrior would be the Javelin as light infantry, or with a heavy spear and large shields as mass troops. Spears in this time period were for thrusting only, so no sweeping around ala Dynasty Warriors.
Swords were the weapon of the Heroes and men of wealth. So a Hero would be armed both with a Javelin or two, a Spear, and a Sword and Shield.
Bows were mainly not the weapon of choice for a hero. When they did use them, it was against a enemy hero, but most would have considered that unmanly. Note in the Illiad, every time a Hero used the bow against a enemy Hero, he never killed him, and almost always something wrong happened. The only time a arrow killed a main hero was the slow painful death of Paris, with the wound to the groin. A fitting end for the man that let his rule his life.
Other weapon for the common soldier, would be the sling.
Horses were not used as cavalry at this time, only as Chariots by the Argives. Troys allies on the otherhand may have had some Cavalry. The Amazons were known for thier horsemanship, and fired arrows from horseback. The Illiad has them both on horse, and on foot in battle. Better to have them on foot, and the horse if represented only good for calling to aid them in movement. Chariots were of the lighter types. Mainly for movement along the battlefield or for removing tired or wounded heroes. There are some evidence that they may have been used in combat between Heroes or as missle platforms. There are some evidence of armored up Heroes, with long spears thrusting from the Chariot, but none in the Illiad.

Weapons should be the same as they are from the ancient times... Swords, spears, bows, catapults, and of course the legendary Trojan Horse. As for Armors, they already included ALL armors in the trailer as they created it.
As for Movements, they already did great job to do these movements, according with the ancient times. No need to make much more, or it will destroy its magic of Trojan War.
As for God Powers, i don't suggest these to be included, since they only prayed to the Olympian Gods for good luck and so... These guys were humans just like us.

You forget that they pleaded with gods to intervene and in some cases they did. Many times gods or goddesses magically renew and bolster exhausted fighters to boldy charge into the line of battle once again.
Don't forget, without dieties its not really a myth anymore...

I had an idea for a game like this several years ago. God powers were included since many of the warriors were given god like powers during the battles in the book.
My idea was to have sacrifices in between battles. The sacrifices would be bought with gold or looted during the battle. The player had the option to pick the god he would sacrifice to, and the choice would lead to a specialized power depending on the god you picked.
Zeus- enables your player to absorb a lightning bolt which then shoot out of the players body into the enemy
Poseidon- ride on his lightning fast chariot pulled by white horses.
Hades- summon fallen heroes to help you during the battle
Athena- invulnerability for a short period of time
Ares- attack power triples
Apollo- fire volleys of arrows to rain down on the enemy
Aphrodite- energy regain
Hermes- speed in increased by 5 times the normal rate
I also had an idea that required players to gather special items throughout the game to give you the chance to become a demi-god (half human- half god). You would need the Agis shield, Helmet of Death, Bow of Apollo, Sword of Artemis, and armor of Achilles. This would give you all the previously mentioned powers at the same time and throughout the level.

Very good ideas, Ajax! Too bad Koei will not be using them this time around. I still believe Greek Legends would be a excellent game for future release. A game that combined both elements of Musou and Empires in the same game.

There are plenty of options when it comes to weapons and powers. After all, this is Greek mythology.
Medusas head, Dragon Teeth of Thebes, Pegasus, Goldon Fleece, Chariot of the Sun, Icarus Wings...etc There is just so much to draw from.
