Samurai Warriors 3 for the Nintendo Wii - General Discussion
«

In a recent interview with President Kenji Matsubara of Tecmo Koei Europe, Matsubara mentioned the upcoming Wii title, Samurai Warriors 3. Referring to the game, he said...
"Currently we are working Samurai Warriors 3 for Wii this year, and Nintendo supports this title. Third party titles have struggled to be popular on the Wii platform. Nintendo understands this situation and so it's provided good support for us. That's why we've chosen to put a big franchise such as Samurai Warriors on Wii. We expect a big hit with that."
According to the quote it appears Koei is aiming for a release later this year, perhaps in time for the holiday season. As far as I can tell from his statement, SW3 may be a Wii exclusive.
I want to know what your thoughts are regarding Koei releasing SW3 only for the Wii. Here are several questions I have for all of you...
1.
Do you think this is a good strategic move on Koei's part, or are you disappointed because you may not own a Wii?
2.
Do you think that Koei may later port SW3 to other platforms like they did for DW6?
3.
Are you interested to see what unique control scheme Koei will have to develop to have SW3 operate on a console with the motion sensory capabilities of the Wii, and how do you think the controls should be mapped out?
4.
If there is anything else regarding SW3 for the Wii (officially announced news, soundtrack, character appearance, etc.), please feel free to mention it.

I really think it should be on PS3 and Xbox360 (Koei made to many newer games for the PS2.)

Check out my new story I've written here on the forums. It's got a main series title: the Last Empire. I was hoping maybe you guys would possibly like reading it.

I have to agree. I don't own a Wii so I'm a little mad that I can't get SW3. I think they should've made it for the PS3 and 360 and then made a specially designed version for the Wii to take advantage of its capabilities.

1)Two different questions actually, but I have the same response. It doesn't seem to be a good strategic move on Koei's part, as the Warriors Series is more towards hard-core fans who often play the PS and XBOX, and the Wii is more an interactive system, which I don't see SW3 working well on, I.e. Fun games but a horrible system hardware wise
2)All comes down to money, do they think they can make as much porting?
3)I am curious how the controls work out. I hope it isn't 1st person as I love the characters too much to have it set up like that. I ,for the first time, don't have an answer of how it should be set up though. I have no clue

Yeah I wasn't a huge fan of Katana so if it's in first person it would be a huge let down for me also

I'll echo your sentiments. It's not a good move, only having it on the Wii, and not the PS3 and/or 360. I also think it might be weird, changing the controls to those of the Wii. I do actually have a Wii, so I might get it. I have COD, and it's nearly impossibe due to the Wii remote.
I just don't think this type of game is meant for the Wii.

I hear ya. And I doubt Koei will go out of their way to map out an intuitive control scheme... But I have some I deas. I'll post my control scheme idea in the most wanted thread...

I think this is a VERY bad move on Koei's part and hypocritical of them becuase not too long ago they stated their games won't work with sony and microsoft's motion sensative gig and yet they're developing one of their franchises with a long awaited sequel for a system most of their fanbase aren't accustomed to playing on. Koei somehow thinks they are going to sell millions just because they are releasing it on the wii the safer route would have been to announce this for ps2/ps3/xbox 360 and give their fans relief instead ths bs they have done.

this "strategic" move is kind of bad on koei's part
a lot of koei's games have been on the PS and xbox consoles from what i remember
i remember playing dynasty warriors 1 2 3 4 5 and samurai warriors 1 on the PS
and right now im playin dynasty warriors 6 and samurai warriors 2 on the Xbox 360
i was really excited when i heard that samurai warriors 3 was comin out
new characters
new costumes
new weapons
same thing with dynasty warriors 6 (the only thing bad about dynasty warriors 6 was the fact that there is not a lot of variety in the game not like 5)
plus i really think since that a lot of people have xbox 360 and PS3 and 2's
putting samurai warriors 3 on the wii would bring the sales of the game down
(thats my prediction i dont really know what might happen)
i have nothing against the wii i own one but i barely use it.
the bottom line is that i don't really see myself playin samurai warriors 3 on the wii
Koei makes one of the best games

I'm quite concerned that it's been half a year since the announcement and very, very little news has been given; unusual for a Warriors game to say the least. Perhaps they are implementing motion control fully?

A disappointing choice. I hope this isn't a trend for KOEI. All I can hope for is that the Legends of Troy game is a smashing success. Then maybe they will open up for more games like SW3 for other systems and more games in general for the European, USA market.

It is strange isn't it? Not that I've ever seen a DW or SW commerical on TV, but normally with the release date so close, there is at least a character roster or screenshots somewhere on the internet. The only things I've seen about the game are the release date and that supposed sketch-work of Nobunaga's SW3 costume.
I suppose that they could be trying to make the most of the Wii's capabilities, but I don't know why they'd want to keep that under wraps if they were. If this is the case, Koei should be throwing up teasers, screens, pics, and gameplay vids like crazy to build up the hype and show off what SW3 can do.

Well, with the supposed November release we should start seeing some info at some point, at least that one bit of news tells us it is still going as planned.

Well, I'm ticked off. All my friends own Wiis, but absolutely refuse to play a DW/SW game. Sucks for me.

Unfortunately, in my opinion, the button-mashing hack and slash action, that's the main point of both the Warriors series gameplay so far, doesn't seem to feasably transfer to the Wii.
Practically and control wise, if I remember correctly, there's a possible 6 buttons , provided each direction on the directional pad is counted as a button, on a Wii controller itself, if you use the nunchuck to move the character, as well as the two on the nunchuck itself. So, the current controls could be ported, just about. But it'd be very difficult to operate the 1 and 2 buttons, assuming the directional pad would be the ABXY or Triangle, Square, Circle, Cross controls of normal attacks, charge attacks, musou attack and jump. It may work, but won't be as effective or user friendly, in my opinion.
So, then, KOEI can also use the motion sensing facilities of the Wii to control the characters too. But it all depends on how well the Wii itself can detect the player's movement. Since the release of the WiiMotionPlus attachment, I assume this has improved since the Wii's release, but KOEI's motion control method, no matter how intuitive, is limited by the Wii itself. I'd rather not delve into the Wii's capabilities, but I have my doubts that a motion control system will be as good as the usual PS3/360 layout for the gameplay, in my opinion.
There was a large amount of disapproval from fans, judging from the forum reaction as an example, about a simple move Playstation models for DW6, so much as to presumably prompt DW6:Special. What surprises me is that KOEI haven't just added the Wii to the systems SW3 will be released on. My only idea as to their motives is the Japanese market. While I know next to nothing on the subject, KOEI most likely gain the most profit from there, making it the top priority. If there are few similar titles on the Wii at the moment there, then they would be able to sell the game to fans of the genre.
I don't agree with the move to Wii, even though I own one, purely due to the possible control problems and a likely graphical quality decrease.
