There is no event for Yoshiteru's assassination. I was dominating as the Miyoshi. But no luck, I even did it on the right year and everything too.

I actually do not know the exact prerequisites. All I did was put Nobunaga in Nijo Palace, with... Tadakatsu Murai (I think that was his first name... He was an older man, and is in their to start.) And left 1k Troops in the castle. In June/July (Which ever is the change of season) Mitsuhide rebelled, and I almost cried, because of what Nobunaga and Nobutada said before they died, it was so emotional...
Anyways, then you get to choose which force you wish to play as. (Akechi, Shibata, Toyotomi, Oda.)
I did a little searching about this event, as I'm getting ideas of what my next game will be, so I was curious to start in the middle of this event, but the instructions here weren't to clear, Gifu castle (which was mentioned a couple of times in this thread) has nothing to do with this event being triggered. I found this over in Game FAQs, and I just tried it, and it works like a charm. (And BTW, I used the Scenario that starts in 1582)
Quote
Honnoji: Only possible in 1582, I believe. Yakami Castle must have more troops than Nijo Palace, Sadakatsu Murai must be in Nijo, Mitsuhide in Yakami, and Nobunaga in Azuchi. Attack Bicchu-Takamatsu Castle, and Nobunaga will say to have Mitsuhide come to Azuchi for a feast for Ieyasu. Move Mitsuhide to Azuchi and the event will auto-fire if no ally troops are in Nijo/Yakami's territory. If Nijo Palace falls to the ensuing Akechi siege, Nobunaga, Sadakatsu and Nobutada Oda will all die, Hidenobu becomes Oda daimyo, and Hashiba, Akechi, and Shibata clans all are created. If Mitsuhide's unit is destroyed, all Akechi units will be eliminated and their officers retreat to Yakami, Nobunaga, Sadakatsu and Nobutada survive and Ranmaru Mori becomes an Oda officer. Hashiba and Shibata do not arise..
The post also goes on to how to save Nobunaga if you want, but I'm assuming most people don't anyway lol. However, what the post doesn't mention which I found on another thread in Game FAQs forum, is Hashiba and probably Kuroda (well maybe not Kuroda, but the post said so, so I did) are the officers you need to attack Bicchu-Takamatsu Castle (so it can't be anyone else but them, so basically just send 10,000 troops from their starting castle)
Now the key here, as it takes 64 days or so to get to that castle is to march in the beginning of April or at the tad end of March. So by the time June comes around, then he'll be there starting the attack. Reason why you wanna do it around that time frame is because if you run the risk of going earlier, then you may run into a situation where Hashiba will retreat and the event won't trigger. So in other words, it's extremely important to have Hashiba fighting come the start of June 1582.
That's about it, I'm sure this has been stated before and this is a rather old thread, but I really noticed there wasn't as good of a description about it, thus I felt like posting my findings, anyway, hope it helps anyone still trying to get this event.

I believe he is only part of the trigger of the event, so if you happen to survive the Oda ambush, then you'll get him as a officer, at least that is what the posts say.

the honnoji incident
i triggered it as follows:
about the end of may 1582, i sent hashiba to attack bitchutakamatsu.
then i called akechi over to azuchi
murai was the only samurai in nijo.
nobunaga was in azuchi.
nobutada can be anywhere i think (i tried with him in azuchi and in gifu).
i summoned akechi to azuchi.
at the beginning of july nobunaga talks about a banquet for tokugawa and asks akechi to arrange it. the full event triggers in august and ends up in september.
after the event u get to choose between, hashiba, shiba, akechi and oda. hashiba has tottori and himeji. akechi gets yakami and nijo. shiba gets kashiwazaki port, nanao, toyama, tsuruga port and one or two other castles. one of which is the original ichijodani but is called something else here.
apparently, there is a way of nobunaga escaping this event. does someone know. i suppose not summoning akechi to azuchi might do it.

lol I went in great detail about that event a few posts up
...
From what I've found there 2 ways Nobunaga can escape that event, even after it's triggered.
1) The Legit way, make sure you station a ton of cavalry near the Nijo border, then once the event triggers, get them going to Nijo as fast as possible. You also have to use smart Mislead's to get some of them to retreat, so that you get those units you sent towards Nijo into the castle to buff it up.
2) The Cheap Way, after the event is triggered, put on autoplay, then take it off and control Akechi instead and force some of his units to retreat, lol..
The end result if Nobunaga survives though is the Mori person that's in this event talking to Nobunaga becomes an officer of yours, and both Akechi brothers are killed.

upgrading castle to citadel
to the best of my knowledge this only happens for three castles, kannonji = azuchi, ishiyama temple = osaka and odawara. trust me i tried at least two other castles but it did not work.
step 1, max out the engineering upgrades, except musket turret and battery. not sure what happens if it has the musket turret and battery. the citadels in the game i played did not have these.
step 2, 3 officers with an s aptitude in engineering and the daimyo must be in the castle before the year ends. not sure if one of the 3 officers can be the daimyo himself. my daimyo did not have an s aptitude for engineering (sai takeda = daughter of shingen).
at the turn of the year, the event will unravel. u need 50000 gold pieces to complete the construction.

Yes, they can have the turret and battery improvements, and yes, the daimyo can be one of the 3 officers with an S for engineering.

if you are playing as oda, do u have to be just lucky for the takenaka event to occur. i read on some other posts that for this to happen, takenaka has to be at inabayama, with about 5k troops etc.
can u trigger this if you are playing as oda. in my last game as takeda, i got news that takenaka had rebelled or something. but in my current game as oda, (and all other oda games i have played) no such luck.

bandekar, your forgetting about Odawara castle! :O Probably about the hardest castle to try and attack from this time period.
It too can become a Citadel. =]
